Sara Escamilla was born in 1981 in San Antonio, Texas. Her latest sculptures and paintings are specifically about her childhood there. She grew up in a typical suburban landscape, surrounded by never ending subdivisions, strip malls and television. In this ultra-materialist environment, crass commercialism muddied the fugitive realities of memory, loss and emotion. Her work explores the bare incongruities of this tension.
Escamilla received her BFA from Texas State University before graduating from Art Center College of Design in 2008.
Sara currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
